Best java programming book for beginners with no idea about programming?

Hello im currently a senior at high school and want to start Java programming since that would be my major in college. I know its kinda late but better late than never. I want to kow the best book to use with a detailed understanding.. I have no idea about programming or anything. A book which would begin java programming from scratch. thanks.

You would have to consult at least two books as different authors have unique teaching styles. Beginning programming with java for dummies, head first java and java programming for the absolute beginner are fantastic books. All three are user-friendly with simple explanations. The for dummies book however, is the ideal book to begin learning java with because of its simplicity and clear explanations.

Learning Java from scratch without any programming background is like trying to snowboard without a board. Your basically jumping into the deep end. Java is a programming language, and there are many out there. Before you even consider picking up a Java book, you should first get acquainted with basic programing, (strings, looping etc..).



The first book I read was Beginning Programing for Dummies which is surprisingly intuitive for a fresh noob. I'd consider reading a few of these before picking up a java book.
