Hosting your blog at any of the "blogging" sites, like Blogger or WordPress or Friendster or MySpace or any of the dozens of others, will limit what you can do, because (1) you won't be able to install and-in modules (aka widgets) and themes, and (2) there will be filters in place limiting the types of HTML you'll be allowed to upload (typically no iFrames or JavaScript, but the list is usually longer than just those two).

The best bet is to set up blogging software, for example Drupal or Joomla or Mambo or WordPress, on a hosting account. Free web hosting typically means you have to show ads on the site, but there are some that are ad-free.

I've just recently finished building a tutorial on installing WordPress on a money-free and ad-free server. Log in as Guest if you want to take a peek...

Many people use the free software from wordpress.org. If you don't have your own webhosting service, wordpress.com (a commercial site) can provide this. If this is for your own use and not to share with other people, you could try tidlywiki, which allows you create wiki (which can be used as a blog) in a single file that just sits on your computer. All editing and saving is done through your web browser.

Well first..

You need a host. A free host is good for those new to html and css. Try freewebs.com or geosites. I personaly love freewebs.

Make sure your blog is a blog. Not lists of things to remember. Try adding a thought of the day. Dont go on and on about things people dont care about. There reading your blog for a thrill not to hear about ur crush. Try doing themend blogs like poems or what i found in my purse....
