i also heard it is free. is it some kind of web hosting company which host our domain name and website for free? i mean if it is the most popular web server and free then why people go for some other free or paid hosting server for hosting their website ?

please explain if my concept is totally wrong . also i heard terms like xampp and phpmyadmin which are somehow related with apache. what are those and how they are related?

Apache is a program that enables a computer to interact with the internet and become a web server.



xampp and phpmyadmin are extentions for Apache used to make it more versatile.

PHP is a must.



It is not a web hosting company.

Apache is a open source free http server which can set up a http://localhost/ setup on your computer.

Apache is now widely used to compile programming languages like php,jsp,asp,perl etc

Many of them use apache to test their website before hosting it
