I'm about fed up with Linux Ubuntu. As much as everyone talks it up, and even though it's probably the best OS option outside of Microsoft and Apple's shenanigans, I'm about to start thinking you get what you pay for here. I want to begin C++ programming and web development (using coffeecup) on Linux, but every time it's a broken link, or it doesn't install properly. Linux just seems like a completely unorganized POS where people dump their junk, and each time a new update happens (which is often) nobody bothers to update their contributions, so it's hard to tell what works and what doesn't, and WHERE to go to find programs that are actually functional. Not to mention no matter how much I've tried tweaking with WINE I can't get iTunes or Safari to work, and am even having trouble getting the latest version of Internet Explorer working through WINE.

This is the sum of all frustration, a message I get when I try installing a new package through the terminal (or through icons for that matter). I'm sure you've seen it:

End of central directory signature not found. blah blah blah, "period." This is basically saying the file doesn't exist or can't be run, right?

Considering half of everything doesn't work and you can't test across on Safari, and have trouble doing it on IE, is it even really worth it??

I like Ubuntu as well, but i'm still running Windows in conjunction.

I Googled your error (you didn't paste the full error, but I think I have enough info) and I found a forum posting about this same situation. Essentially, looks like what's happening is that the .zip file isn't really a .zip file. This would have less to do with Ubuntu or Linux and more to do with the vendor of the application which you are trying to download.

From the forum, here's what the user tried:

"It turns out that the site uses redirection for its downloads. So although the link looked like it was to a zip file it wasn't really. The link for the file actually goes via another page that says "If the download doesn't start automatically then click here to download manually.".

If you right-click on the "click here..." link then you get the REAL url of the thing your trying to download.

When I used wget on this new link it worked fine."

Try the above and see if that works.

I've almost never run into problems like this, I'm very happy with Ubuntu.

The software repository system makes for really easy installation for most things, even though software that is unsupported is maybe troublesome.

The error message is probably about a corrupted zip file.

stunning attempt for the two answer you gained yet none are appropriate, as a results of fact Linux perplexing force format isn't comparable to MS perplexing disk format, once you inserted the xp set up disk in the force and booted it up. Have you read the manual?

When in trouble read the instructions. Linux does not work like windows and if you try to do things like you did in windows you will have a lot of problems.

Good luck
