Need help with opening Access file please!?

I have my assignment due tomorrow in my online class & several students have had trouble opening this file and it has been brought up in our discussion board however, I am not finding any of the solutions to be working for me. Particularly because I think, I have downloaded the student data files & they have all worked up until now...And I assume because the MS Office version for Mac OSX 10.6 does not include the Access software on it. So what can I do to open this file? I do not need to edit any of the information in this file so a read only file would be fine.

I have OpenOffice 3 but perhaps I am just illiterate & do not know how to open it. When I open it it has the different options and I have tried clicking on open database, or open document and then finding the file i need but I get an error every time. At first it wants to open it with Adobe Reader but that doesnt support this type of file. Uhg....Any solution?

I am not very good at computer literacy I guess so a step by step instructions would be very appreciated, specifically someone who is familiar with a Mac operating system. Otherwise it will kind of go over my head. Thank you again!

Also, I think I have unzipped the data files I have downloaded but if by chance I have not can someone tell me how to do this?

1.Access is a terrible database, and everybody is lucky they can even access it. It will corrupt itself at the drop of a keyboard.

2. Office on a Mac is absolutely terrible.

Here's information on how to use OpenOffice to open the database, it's for an old version though. :(

is there such thing as Access viewer program? or maybe download a trial version of Access, hoping that it is compatible with your datafile? you might also be able to import the Access file into Excel?
