Question:
3d Modelling: I got 3ds max 5 about 4 years ago, tried it, but couldn't really get anywhere...?

I can use extrude on polygons, meshsmooth, manipulate objects by pulling their vertexes, etc. (all the VERY basic stuff), but how do I make something like a human head (DON'T give links to tutorials), I'm not asking for a tutorial, I just want to know what to do to create lips, ears, nose, realistic eyelids, etc.

Thanks in advance ;D

A really useful way to model is to set up a front and side reference with image planes, then draw a spline following the contour of the side (corner vertices). Convert it to an editable poly then on edges, use shift+move to create polys. Then when you have enough polys, move all the vertices into the right place and weld them together with target weld or weld selected.

That's how I go about modelling stuff anyway.

Here is a tutorial i found, but i believe it may be for a newer version:

I used 3ds max 3 back in high school and i remember the process being like what the last post described, of combining many different polygons into the shape that you want. Then I would combine them into one polygon and delete most of the internal vertices's.

ive had some experience with 3ds max. As with any 3D modeling software, the only way to "make" a FACe,EAR,Whatever is essentially to compile it from lots and lots of polygons extruded in a way to create a smooth shape....this is not as easy as it seems as theres no "EAR" button.

Isn't trying to make a face bit ambitious!

I have a friend who taught himself 3dStudioMax

but all he wanted to do was build buildings.
