I have my website hosted through www.geocitys.com and i wan't to log like the computers IP and Name and Time vistited and how long they where there... is there any way to do that?

I have a second question not related to the topic... My friend and i are program designers and we are creating a program that is awsome but im not going to tell you so you don't steel it... we are hiding it from our school when we tranfer it to eachothers flash drives at school... but the school won't let us copy exe or any other file except jpg and word docs... I wan't to know a (free) way of hiding it in a jpg file and making it still launchable just when you open the jpg file... They block hidden folders and everything... its annoying... please help

You can certainly write a script to update a counter so you know when people visit and how many. Unfortunately, you can't tell who they are, their IP or how long they are. This is due to the way the web works. The user is using a client (browser) to contact your server to retrieve pages. The http request and responses both contain headers that contain certain information. That does not include IP, or name. As to how long they've been there, you can't know. You can only know how often they've made requests. They could've left your site and come back, you simply don't know.

As for your second question, no, you can't "hide" an executable in a jpg. As the owners of the computers, your school has every right not to allow you to install executables.

Hello

Well for the first question just go here

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/geocities/gstat/

Geocities offer site statistics which is what I presume you are looking for. If you need more than they offer just do a search on yahoo for website visitor tracking software and you will get a ton of links to sites that offer more involved tracking software.

As to the second question it seems sort of simple to me but maybe I am missing something. Why don't you just take the .exe file and rename it? i.e. setup.exe to elephantpic.jpg.

The file will retain all it's executable properties. It will just need to be renamed back to exe to run it. If you try and run it while still named .jpg your graphics software is going to try and open it and that obviously won't work.

Hope this helps answer your questions and good luck with your new program!

Cheers!

The hire which you're at recent below could be venerated, it is not appropriate what the circumstances are with the difference of possession. the undeniable fact which you have have been given have been given suggested 'there could be no longer something in writing' is slightly stressful - do you mean there's no hire settlement, or that there's no longer something written approximately you being in a position to save for the residence? You do have a lot of rights as tenants, in spite of if it quite is the property vendors residence, she has the right to sell it to whoever she needs, each and every time she needs. regrettably now no longer a lot you will do, besides refuse to flow away, even nonetheless you may ultimately be evicted and the owner might likely in no way sell it to then you definately.

U could try renaming the exe to jpg. You could also embed the exe in a Word document and hide it behind a picture/text box.

Name the file .jpg. When you want to work on it, rename it .exe

I can't help you with the logging - I don't use geocities as a host.
