Expecting answers from senior software developers.
Also please let me know how much time it would take me to learn and start using it.
I am looking for a short and easy not too confusing (having several technologies/API/inbuilt functions to do the same thing!!). I just know there are few famous names like scala, clojure, ruby on rails, grails, groovy etc...  you can suggest among these languages too.

I know C, C++ and a little bit of java. java seems too lengthy and not so easy. so don't suggest these 3 or php.
Please suggest a good one used in companies and having job opportunities (less competition).
Thanks!

Personally, I would suggest Python, it is simple enough to learn, but has the capabilities of something much more complex.

Java is a good language, I suggest everyone should know. Python is getting popular and it's pretty easy.
