I have a txt file on the free server, its using(Apache 2.2) and if i put the address to this file in the url it wont open. How can i make it open like a hotlink.I can click on the file in the server and choose a browser but my server hosts address is the only one showing so cant get it that way.
also linking through html also fails to open it,the page just fails to find it.
I don't Want the code below

This fails even with the full url.

I just want to hotlink to the .txt file.
The text file doesn't open in the url in any folder using the correct path.

It is something to do with Java which is ment to fix this but what? .
If anyone can find a way to open a .txt file in the url without making it open by a button.
file is spelt correct and in the same folder as html

someone said java script will fix this but i don't know much about this.i don't want html it has to be the .txt file which opens with the url and someone said it can be done but no one has got the answer.

You can open a text file in your browser their must be a way to do this from a server.

its possible and usual that you are trying to hotlink a file which is hosted on a free server like geocities/tripod etc, they prevent hotlinks to prevent bandwidth theft. actually the files on their servers can only be called via html files contained on their servers only.

you can use pages.google.com orwww.hotlinkfiles.com

they allow direct linking the files to your link.

otherwise the link you have used is fine.

First check the file permission, in your ftp program right click and permissions, if it's still doesn't work check the folder permission as well and make sure you publishing this file in public_html directory, otherwise it will not be available for guests.
