I would suggest virtualizing a Fedora machine to start. Set aside plenty of space for the OS and any additional tools and updates you may desire.

I suggest Oracle VirtualBox. Take a look here: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

I've run a long list of Fedora Core boxes on it without incident.

Using a virtual machine, you can reboot and mess with the Linux system while running Windows and having Outlook open and playing iTunes. Works swimmingly.

Just to expand a bit on oInstanc's answer:

You should be able to install Fedora in addition to Windows 8, but you'll need an empty hard drive partition for that. This allows you to select whether to boot into Win8 or Fedora when you turn on the laptop. The downside is that you have to restart the computer every time you want to switch to the other OS.

Also, should you wish to remove Fedora at some point, you need to fix the hard drive's boot sector using a Windows installation DVD, otherwise Win8 won't boot afterwards.

I heartily recommend the virtual machine route as outlined by oInstanc.

VirtualBox is free and I use it all the time.

The downside to a virtual machine is that it is slower than running it natively, but for coding C it should suffice just fine.

First of all, C language never requires Teminal for any of its function to work . But, you can optionally use terminal to compile C programs using "gcc".

Next thing you should know is that Fedora can't be installed in Windows as Fedora never provides its Operating System as Windows Executable Program(.exe file). Instead Fedora is an Operating System just like Windows 8.

To install fedora, you need A Fedora Installation media such as CD/DVD or USB Drives or External Hard Drives etc. It means that you can either use CD/DVD or USB Drives or External Hard Drives to Install Fedora 14 Operating System. If you don't have any Fedora installation media then you can easily burn your CD/DVD using Fedora ISO provided here - http://kartolo.sby.datautama.net.id/fedora/releases/20/Live/x86_64/Fedora-Live-Desktop-x86_64-20-1.iso

You can also make your USB Drive as a Bootable Drive just by following this instructions - http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/20/html/Installation_Guide/Making_USB_Media.html

Now, you have a Fedora 14 Installation Media. Just plug your USB drive or insert CD/DVD and reboot your PC. Now, enter in BIOS menu(in my case it can be visible when I presses F2 button several time at startup). Now, change the Boot order to boot first from Installation media such as USB Drive, CD/DVD(You must choose the media which your plugged/inserted in your PC such as USB Drive or CD/DVD). Now, when your PC start booting from installation media then you can select "INSTALL" Option and then easily install it as per their instruction.

Do you know - You can also use Android to use terminal as Android is a Linux based operating system.
