Question:
Having problems with our IT guy/web development?

Our company website has about 100 pages. It has won awards in the past. Now I am updating the site via our IT guy who then forwards to a web person in India.

The problem is that the turn around time is getting longer and longer. Over a month so far.

I need your opinion on whether or not a normal somewhat computer literate person could actually perform spelling corrections without a problem developing.

The owner of the company wants me to do this, the IT guy wants to make his money.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, that is ridiculous. Plus, a professional web development company should never ever post anything with spelling errors in it.

Getting a content management system really is the best. I work for one, (which I don't think I'm allowed to promote here) but our clients can log in and change the content themselves, easily keeping the formatting consistent and not risk breaking the site by accidentally deleting the wrong bit of code.

Just google until you see one that is reputable.

If the site designer didn't get carried away with the technology under the pages, editing the text is something you can do yourself with a web site editor. It can get tricky, though.

It might make sense to look into a content management system if your needs are simple but you have a lot of content and/or make a lot of changes. Once it's set up you can leave it to the staff to add and edit pages through the web browser. WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, and Movable Type are key contenders. Look past the blogging aspect and see what kind of sites people have made with them. They each have their own features/quirks that make them suited for certain types of sites.

Why the heck are you going to India to fix a website? There are tons of companies and people in North America, who could do an awesome job. Does the IT guy work for your company or is he a third party type guy? If your company was smart they would get a CS or CIS intern, and pay them to work on it and save some money. You need to know how the web page is hosted. Is your IT guy uploading the pages to the server, If he is you/he can download them, and then you can edit them and he can re- upload them.
