As far as search engines are concerned, PHP and HTML pages are identical. By the time the page gets to the client, (whether it be a user or a search spider) PHP pages have been translated into HTML / XHTML. Clients never see actual PHP.

In the past, dynamic pages (PHP, ASP, and the like) were given less weight on search engines than static pages, because the content wasn't guaranteed to be the same on each pass to the site. However, almost all major web sites now use some form of dynamic content or content management system, so now there is little bias against dynamic content.

In fact, the most important aspect is the amount of interest in your site. You get interest by having lots of people link to your page. This will happen when you have compelling content. The content needs to have value, and it needs to change frequently so people will go back (and make a link from their site) This is easier to do with a content management system (frequently powered by PHP and a database like MySQL) than it is in straight HTML.

It makes no difference. Assuming the resulting web page will be output as HTML, whether you code it originally as HTML or PHP will make little difference insofar as search engine placement is concerned.

One suggestion that I do make is that you keep style information and javascript where they belong -- in separate files, as .CSS and .JS includes. This way, the keywords you're trying to get placement for won't get dilluted by all of that gratuitous information. Besides, it makes for a more orderly page design and, by inference, a more orderly site.

Neither is better than the other, all search engines require is that your website can be crawled easily by their spiders e.g. avoid excessive amounts of Flash content.

If you want to get good rankings in search engines you want to look at Search Engine Optimisation, have a read of this http://www.webconfs.com/seo-tutorial/.

If still you're deciding whether to use PHP or HTML, the only question you need answer is:

Is my website interactive with its users (use PHP) or is it purely informational (use HTML).
