--> ASP.NET is usually used with a visual studio, but if you'll find an environment, another tan notepad to edit sources for .cs(or .vb) files and .aspx files you are lucky :)

But after writing the code you should have the .NET Framework to compile the code and the IIS(Internet Information Service) to run the .aspx files like a web page, I think it is really hart, you better get a Visual Studio for studying purposes and then you'll know how to deal without it if you want, but still it will be a hard work to de.

They aren't free... and being Microsoft products, cracked versions are likely to give you problems since half of their coding goes into validation and licensing, rather than functionality.
