Where to learn basic programming for beginners?

I know some (extremely limited and possibly irrelevant) programming techniques from programs such as Scratch and GameMaker. Is there any easy (understandable for beginners) and free tutorials around that would allow me to learn programming that I could develop (by experimenting and looking at tutorials) into skills that would allow me to create programs, etc. It just has to start with the basics, preferably not using language that I do not know of and not using programs that I have to buy or have a large download. Thanks!

There are a couple free tutorials available on the Internet that will help teach you how to program. The ones I know use Python to teach you how to program. You can download Python for free.

If you like games, one good one is http://inventwithpython.com/. The author of the book Invent Your Own Computer Games With Python has made his book available for free. You can download it and Python 3.1 for free and start learning programming from there.

Another free book about Python is Think Python at www.thinkpython.com.

If you have $30 to spend on this, I would strongly recommend Head First Programming from O'Reily Press. This is a great book for the beginner programmer. You can get it used from Amazon, EBay or Powells books.

you're on the impressive course. Javascript is large and that's the excellent one to study and maximum functional without getting complicated. word that HTML and CSS are not programming. What you're doing in those languages is springing up a portfolio and modifying the textual content textile and photographs to look a definite way. the earnings of Javascript is you do no longer % a compiler consequently that's displayed rapidly on a browser. the least complicated language to study is common, yet you will no longer get to word it plenty to something so which you extremely heavily isn't discovering for plenty. common and seen common are quite often used in an place of work placing, like for storing information and such. Do you artwork in an place of work? i do no longer think of you will. the difficulty with C, C++, and purpose-C is they are very functional, yet merely once you have taken the impressive arithmetic classes alongside with Discrete math. you may build courses without understanding the maths, yet as quickly as you % to create the advantageous courses, then you definately desire some math, and it is not something usually taught in ok-12, it is college. in an attempt to respond to your question, Javascript little doubt. there is definitely a lot of Javascript classes on line.
