In the Windows Hosts file (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts), is it possible to assign an IP address to a website for just one week/day/hour? I'm sure it must be possible.

ip addresses are first resolved by looking up it up in the hosts file, so if you add an alias, then it will be that that is used first

However, this only applies to the computer that the hosts file is stored on, unless you are using that computer an a domain name server

If you just want to test somthing using a particular ip address, there is no need to add it to the hosts file, you can just use the ip address directly

e.g. to directly acces you router, you can use the ip address //192.168.1.1 or can add the entry

192.168.1.1 myRouter

and then use //myRouter

Sure you can, you add it in and then go back and delete it when you want it removed! Or you can write a script to do it for you. As for just writing it in with a time frame for start and removal, I don't believe that is possible!
