To make a website just follow this guide I made:

First, if you don't really want to write and you just want to make a site fast with free hosting try these sites:

1#Webs-- webs.com/ | Formally FreeWebs

Simply sign up, chose a domain(www.yoursitename.webs.com), choose a templet, then ad content, and upload, as easy as that! The hosting is free, but you can upgrade to get more features.

2#Weebly-- weebly.com/

Create a free website or blog in minutes by using a simple drag and drop interface. No ads. One of Time's 50 best websites of the year.

2#Blogger-- blogger.com/start

Great to start a blog, powered by google!

If you are willing to spend time learning (but want some help making it with a program) then check out these links:

1#KompoZer-- http://www.kompozer.net/

WYSIWYG HTML and CSS editor derived from Nvu. Binary downloads for Windows, Mac, and several variants of Linux. [Open Source]

By the way KompoZer is NVU's Unofficial bug-fix because NVU was forgotten, it has so many bugs and crash so much they just gave-up. So don't use NVU. Also the new version of KompoZer will most likely be BlueGriffen:

bluegriffon.org/

It will fix all of KompZer problems while still using the KompoZer/NVU Look and feel.

<--------------------------------Some Q and A-------------------------------->

Q:

What is a WYSIWYG editor?

A:

Well stands for What You See Is What You Get it makes the code for you, if you place a image here on the screen it will make the code to do that, there are limitation thought but it's still good.

When your site gets big and you need to control things easily then try a CMS(Content Managing System)

<--------------------------------Some Q and A-------------------------------->

Q:

What's a CMS?

A:

It's a Content Managing System that can control many things on your site with one click, example:

Logo, Navbar, Slogan, Theme, Info, etc.....

Q:

How would it help me?

A:

It would control many elements on you site with one click, you will find that it get hard when your site reaches 40+ Page and you need to copy and past the new link in your navbar to every page, or change your logo, etc....

Q:

What do I need to run a CMS?

A:

You need a a web host that offers MySql(Preferably 5) and PHP(Preferably 5).

Q:

What CMS Should I use?

A:

There are so many CMS out there it's hard to say, you could check sites like:

cmsmatrix.org/

cmsmadesimple.org/

cmscritic.com/

To find one that fit your needs, here are some of the most popluar CMS:

Joomla

WordPress

Drupal

I use MODx CMS:

modxcms.com/

It's an easy to use CMS that has a growing community and won the 2007 most promising CMS Award.

Q:

Got any Tutorials?

A:

With the wide amount of CMS out there, it's hard to cover all the CMS's, a good place to learn is YouTube, for visual learning, other wise just search the tutorial you need in your favorite search engine.

Every Site need a domain(example www.yoursite.com , or www.somesite.net , etc)

<--------------------------------Some Q and A-------------------------------->

Q:

What is a Domain?

A:

A Domain is the URL of you site ie, www.yoursite.com or www.yoursite.co.cc.

Also most hosting company's will give you a sub-domain, ie, www.yoursite.110mb.com or www.yoursite.webs.com

If you want a free domain try a .co.cc domain:

co.cc-- https://www.co.cc/

co.cc is a free domain, (example, www.yoursite.co.cc).

If you want a top level domain like .com, .net, .org etc. domain then you have to pay for those.

If you would like to buy a top level domain then check out

GoDaddy.com:

godaddy.com

To have your site on the web you need a server to host it, server space can cost from nothing at all to $500+ for dedicated servers.

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

They are a Multi-awarded Web Hosting which offer a Full-featured service only $6.95. You can see their Plan Details accompanied with reliable reviews regarding their service at:

http://www.threehosts.com/reviews/1st

Here I have copied and pasted its features from their website to view:

- Free Domain Forever

- Unlimited Space

- Unlimited Transfer

- Host UNLIMITED Domains (Support All Domain Names)

- 2,500 POP/Imap Email Accounts

- SSH (Secure Shell), SSL, FTP, Stats

- CGI, Ruby (RoR), Perl, PHP, MySQL

- Front Page Extensions

- Free Site Builder

- 24/7 Superb/Responsive Sales/Support

- Free Search Engine Submission

They also offer "Free Site Builder" that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any website creating program. (WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get)

******IMPORTANT*******

* If you sign up for this service you will have $75 credits to advertise your website with the google & yahoo search engines for free!

As Nice Guy pointed out, and I am in professional development too here is the requirement for real start.

1. Domain Registration, it comes as 1 yr rent.

2. Web hosting

3. Programming knowledge

4. Design

The 1st and 2nd usually comes in as a bundle, for 1 yr rental service, renewable unless you do cancel, price varies, true TLD and hosting, not Freewebs type.

The 3rd and 4th usually comes in various degree of professional expertise, if you can't do it by yourself contract in someone to do this; a separate programming/logistics expert and another visual design expert is also a possibility; I was contracted in as JSP integrator while a separate company does visual design on a plain HTML.

Well, don't let anyone trick you into thinking its hard. Its just different.

The first thing you will need is a web host, this is a place (server) that stores your data on the internet. i use bluehost.com, because i have found that there FTP (the way you put things on the server) program is very easy to use.

then you will need a domain name, this is simple, it comes with the package that bluehost.com sells, thats how i got mine. The package i got, the lower end one, costs about a $100 dollers a year.

there are other options, such as this site, where you click and drag things to make web sites. If your not intersted in learning tones of crap, use this. http://www.homestead.com/

Verdict: Go to http://www.homestead.com/
