You are using GIMP - not Photoshop.

Your path isn't long enough, or your text is too large.

You have to either make the font smaller, or make the path longer.

Note that there are little markers at the beginning and end of your text that you can drag around to tweak the text on the path a bit more. After the text is on the path, switch to the direct selection tool (white arrow below the type tool icon) and you should be able to drag around the markers to position the text better by using the marker at the beginning of the text. The one at the end will allow you to cut off your text, or show more text.

For this one you could have just used the ellipse shape tool instead of creating a path from scratch being that you're only doing an arch with the text and not anything too elaborate with the path/text combination.

Hope this helps.

It looks like you didn't close off the path properly- instead you just made an anchor point and the new path segment dragged up with your cursor to the tools palette when you changed tools. Check and fix up your paths (add a temporary stroke colour to them so you can see them better) and your text should path properly.
