I just got Absolute-linux (http://www.absolutelinux.org/) and it says its based off Slackware.
and i see wine (http://www.winehq.org/download/) that i want.

well I'm a noob with Linux, JUST got the thing installed on an old computer because I finally bought a little 100gb HDD at a garage sale. Anyways, as far as the Wine programing goes, i see Ubuntu and Debian, Redhat, SUSE, all of which are gibberish to me sorta. Is there wine availability for the Linux kernel I have, or will Ubuntu just be better?

I've heard Ubuntu is one of the leading "user friendly" ones, that still has advanced options for later. So without giving me a lecture on who is better, unless you feel I'm miss informed in which case please message me, here is what I'd plan to do with the computer.

games: such as world of warcraft (which is why wine is sorta needed) as well as step-mania (stepmania.com its a DDR game thing) as well as more modern games once i upgrade the system, like COD:MW and Diablo3 and such.
web browsing, and iTunes, burning MP3s and such.

i been a long time windows user, so it be great for wine to let me use a lot of the same programs I'm familiar with, although i know not all will work. So back to the OP, which wine do i use?

Give the Super OS a try. It is based on ubuntu with many addons already installed like Wine.

It is therefore larger than the "normal" ubuntu and must be burned to a dvd not a cd.

I would also suggest that you note the info that is presented during the install, and after install click on the blue question mark for help .

Good luck

Since you have a distribution based on Slackware you should probably get the Slackware package. In general, I prefer to always get source tar files and compile software instead of getting a package. If the Slackware package fails, then download the .tar source file and follow its directions to get it running.

However, if you have such a reliance on Windows applications then why use Linux? If its just to learn Linux its easier to set up your computer so that you can boot to both windows and Linux. You must have patience with Linux to get it running how you want. At that point it's very enjoyable to use. There are so many distributions and ways to set up Linux that unless you find out what you like you probably wont enjoy it.

i would not even hardship attempting. you would be a lot greater suitable off having abode windows in a twin boot setup, or on yet another device for taking part in video games. Or play video games on a console rather. Or attempt the assorted interior of reach linux video games. making use of linux would not ought to ivolve ditching abode windows. Use the suitable device for the activity handy. I converted my abode windows installation right into a vm image it slow in the past, and use it for doing my tax on line, and for making use of my linux incompatible scanner. i do no longer interest in any respect, so as that works for me. Cheers!
