i have an assignment to print and there are few pics (made in illustrator) in png format...so is it ok print them? or do i have to turn them into jpg?

I chose png format because when i turn those pics(made in illustrator) into jpg the colors get kinda 'dull'.

Here's a good rule of thumb for image formats:

If it's an actual photograph of something in the real world, use JPEG.

If it's anything else, use PNG.

Both formats can be printed. Any image format can be printed.

The main difference between both the formats is: JPG is lossy compression and PNG is lossless compression. Since images made for web are necessary to be of small size, saving it in a PNG format serves the purpose as well as it saves the quality of the image.

If you're going to get a professional print shop to do the printing, leave the images in Illustrator format or export as pdf - either of these file options should be accepted and they'll give you the best quality and least colour changes, jpg is well known for lesser quality and colour shifts.

I assume you are talking digital printing, in which case colour modes shouldn't be too much of an issue, if you're using offset printing it will need to be converted to CMYK.

As long as they show up on your computer screen then you can print it, whether is be png or jpg format.

Really its Tiff. that is used for printing because the color spectrum from Tiff. is the same as the CMYK in printing. However PDF shows you on screen what it would look like from the printers CMYK
