GIMP is already installed on Ubuntu by default. It should be located in Applications > Graphics

Or on the Dell Mini it is located in Graphics button on the left side of the screen.

If you are using a dell mini then the interface is different than what Ubuntu normally looks like because of what the dell techs have done to it.

As for the skype thing, here are the instructions for installing it:

"how do you do

apt-get install gimp?"

You type that into the Terminal located in Accessories.

No situation with a truetype on Ubuntu. Under menu Places, goto Home. Make a folder referred to as Downloaded_Fonts. Put your new-determined font there to grasp wherein it's. Double click on at the font icon. Click "Install Font" Button. Congratulations, your font has been set up! You would possibly, would possibly must shutdown after which re-login for the font to be method-extensive. I would not consider so with Ubuntu eleven.10. If you've got a gigantic number of fonts you'll be able to prepare the fonts into units that plug-in or deactivate. That takes a font software referred to as Fonty Python. Be pleased your Windows went to bit heaven.

Under Linux you don't download a program yourself to install it. You use the package manager!

Go to the applications menu (top left) and the last option is to add/remove software.

In that program, you can search for "GIMP", check its box and click Ok, and it will automatically download and install it for you.

Its not like Windows where you download and install seperately, under Ubuntu (and most Linux distros) its done for you.

it's should be in the Applications tab(or wherever Ubuntu has on the main menu that lists programs.). If you want to install it just to make sure, install it using apt-get.

sudo apt-get install gimp

(I don't know what's the Ubuntu equivalent of sudo, since I use Debian. Probably it's su)

Phonicuk is wrong. A lot of applications are not located in Ubuntu repositories (e.g. Azureus and Limewire) in which case you need to download the program yourself. In some cases you even have to compile the source code yourself.

Open a terminal and type:

su

[Enter root password]

apt-get install gimp

There should be a "start button" much like in Windows that you can access all your applications from.
