Well I started learning python and its been some months now and at the level I'm at I can write my own function and module and I can also write some basic and amateur programs and I can also use basic gui programes like easygui but I can't create my own yet. I'm learning it online from a site and its not been that easy though the site tries to simplify and explain everything I still find it hard to under stand some thing.
How long did it take you to learn your first programming language. Also how old were you and did you were did you learn it from.

I was 12 or something and started with HTML, JavaScript and these "basic" web languages, I don't remember how long it took to learn those, but it wasn't a long time.

I then when I was 14-15 I started with C++ for some stupid reason and it took me months to learn it since C++ is really complicated and complex.

I learned most stuff from books and sites.

HTML isn't a programming language, and PHP is barely a scripting language.

A real programming language can be picked up in a day if you know the basics of programming, but can take months or years to learn the ins and outs and really start to master it. If you don't know the basics of programming, then that alone can take a year or more to learn.

I learned the basics by reading books on the subject, and then writing programs.
