Hello,

All of these are different features provided by the web host. Most of the objects in the list are different programming languages that are allowed to execute on the server(python, ruby, etc). Others are database related like the MySql. There are also a lot of general website options listed like security, email, statistics.

If you aren't the person who is physically creating the site then it would be a good idea to sit down with the coder and discuss the hosting needs before going ahead and selecting a host. If you ARE the person creating the site then you will need to do a bit more studying on how to program your website to be an interactive, database-driven website.

Good Luck =)

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. A domain name is a name you want to call your website. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

They are a Multi-awarded Web Hosting which offer a Full-featured service only $6.95. You can see their Plan Details accompanied with reliable reviews regarding their service at:

MySQL Database - Database used to dtore info on your site if you run blog software or forum

Backups - You are able to download a backup of your site

Weekly backups - The server will hold backups of your site for you

Uptime - how often the servers are up. if it has 99.99%, the server will only be done roughly 0.01% of the time

FTP Accounts - system to transfer files from computer to internet

Anonymous FTP - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Transfer_Protocol#Anonymous_FTP

CGI Scripts - scripts such as blogs/forums

PHP - a basic coding language used in web design

Ehh, if you want the rest just google it, I got those from the top of my head so they may not be accurate enpugh, that web host is pretty advanced, I would suggest a cheaper or even free one to test around with until you know how to set DNS settings, get traffic, advertise efficiently, etc.

PS I'm only 13.

If you want to buy any domain name or web hosting service I think you should contact the company you wish to use and ask them the specific terms you want to know about because some of those things you mentioned will apply to some companies but not others so it depends who you go through.

Dont worry about all the technical terms you basically want a website that will do what you want..

My domain name and hosting was through Hosting24. They registered my domain name free with the cheap hosting plan I chose around $4 a month(I used a code to get a discount i think it still works it was: 25off )

They come with a website wizard and templates to help you get your website up and running the easy way. (no need to know the techincal stuff at all)

If you intend to update the website yourself I suggest you go to w3school.com and learn html, css, php, Mysql - free tutorials.

It will take you about a week.

otherwise hire someone else to do it.

make sure you have the above before wasting money on a domain name etc.

or start with a simple blog. www.blogger.com. If you are able to update your blog for a month, it has frequent visitors, you can go ahead and spend money.
