Based on what you said:

"i have no idea what to do, i need step by step details and explanations. i dont even know how to open whatever program you need"

Whatever problem you are experiencing you will not be able to solve the problem in the command prompt because you need to have pretty extensive knowledge of DOS. You are not a geek therefore you will not be able to make "heads or tails" of using the command prompt. There is no way somebody can give you step by step instructions as there are hundreds of DOS commands.

To find a solution your better to ask another question that details what problem you are having with your computer.

The command prompt is an interface between the user and the Windows kernel. It is a command line interface as opposed to the graphical user interface of the Window Explorer.

To access the command prompt, click on the Start Button, click on Run.. and type in "cmd" or "command" in older systems.

In summary,

Start >> Run... >> type "cmd"

OR

Start >> Run... >> type "command"

Command prompt of the memories of the Good old DOS days. You can do certain thing on Windows Ipconfig is one example. Another Good example is you want to export the folder list on the windows. Such things are done on command prompt. This can be done on command prompt by

Dir > list.txt command very easily.

The Command Prompt is a program that loads a DOS level command line to execute DOS level programs. You will seldom if ever use this.

There are many command line programs that can be run from the RUN command line in Windows. Such as ipconfig or regedit. These programs can be very dangerous to use, if yuo do not know want you are doing.

The Windows Command Prompt Performs text-based (command-line) functions. To use it simply click "Start>>Run" on WinXP and type "cmd" and say OK. You can use DOS programs with it and it is very useful for some applications.

A command prompt is your operating system without the fancy graphical user interface. You simply enter in the commands you want directly. Like copy, paste, run a program, move a file etc.
