the best book to learn C programming language is NO DOUBT "The C Programming Language - 2nd Edition" by Kernighan and Ritchie.

you can also try C HOW TO PROGRAM by DEITEL & DEITEL.

and a easy book C PROGRAMMING ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS GUIDE by Greg Perry and Dean Miller.

and BE CAREFUL of Let US C by Yeshwant Kanetkar as this book was announced under standard by the ORGANIZATION that maintain C's STANDARD. and this book was full of numerous errors. May be the book is more elaborated by the basic concept but there is no point of learning such a great language with a book full of error. Some people say its a bible. its no where close to a standard book so how can it be a bible.

I suggest you ignore the [mislead] people telling you to get "Let us C" by Yashavant Kanetkar, the book is filled with numerous errors and covers platform-dependent libraries (which are irrelevant to C).

Get a copy of "The C Programming Language (Second Edition)" by Kernighan and Ritchie. It's still one of the best texts for the language.

Also, C isn't obsolete at all. Many popular programs are written in C, such as the GNU C Compiler, Linux, the Apache web server, and many others.

C is the best language to understand logic and programming skills. Most of the renowned hackers and developers have spent huge time with C which is perhaps the mother of all language like C++, JAVA, RUBY, Python and even LInux kernel.

The best illustrative for for learning C is Let US C by Yeshwant Kanetkar (BPB Publication). Then try a solving book written by Dennis Ritchie. I am sure you can master the language basics in less than 6 months. All the best

unlike the answers above i I would suggest that you continue with C programming. Its good to start with to understand the fundamental of programming. Bcause higher language are loaded with concepts and side tracks you from simple things lk loops, condition statement and such

Later you can switch to C# or Java..

A good book would be C by E. Balgurusamy or Let us C by YK

hope this helps
