Hi
Im using sql server 2000 and VS 2005
i get this error always
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

Not sure i tried everthing available on the web site and also tried reinstalling my OS and DEVENV and sql server
I still get the same error still .
Im using windows XP and AMD Processor .
I also gave exceptions in windows firewall and assigned both local and remote connections in sql server surface area configuration
and i get this error when trying to fill a dataset and if i use sqldatasource it works well .

Pls help me out on this

Whenever I get this error the first thing I do is test the connection using an ODBC connection.

- Goto Control panel --> Administrative tools --> odbc and add a new odbc connection, make sure to choose "Sql Native" provider and not "sql server".

Also goto SQL 2005 settings and enable "Allow remote connections" and "use mixed authentication mode".

Hope that helped
