Question:
How do I draw a circle with Photoshop?

This is annoying! I can't find any tool that allows me to draw a circle. All I can find are tools that let me cut a circle, or draw a *filled* circle (using the vector tool). I would just like to draw a nice empty circle, how can I do this?

Use the eliptical marquee tool with no fill and hold down the shift key to give you a circle then go to the file menu and >edit>stroke select width and colour

I always have the same problems with shapes (circles, ellipses, simple LINES!)

My trick:

I use PAINT (yes!)

Draw a nice circle (width adjustable, radius adjustable etc)

White bkg.

Save as BMP

load it in Photoshop

Use magic hand to select the bkg. (Adjust tolerance to 1 and use antialiaising if you want).

Erase the bkg.

Et voilà: a nice layer with just a circle, or an ellipse, or a set of lines. I use this also with AutoCAD for spline lines (complex line shapes).

Then I continue with PS...

Choose the Ellipical Marquee tool. It's the second one down in the toolbar. It probably looks like a dotted square. If you hold the mouse button down, you will see a dotted circle. That's the one. Now in the top toolbar there will be a drop-down selector. By default its set to "Normal". Change this to "Fixed Size". Now you can type in 19px in the Width and Height Boxes. Click on your image and it will create a selection. But this doesn't actually create the circle. It creates a selection that you can now fill. In the top menu go to Edit>Fill (or Shift-F5). Then you can choose foreground or background colour, black or white etc.
