So I just created a design for a friend, and I wanted to save the image with a transparent background so that when he prints, he can print it on any colored paper he wants. However, I tried printing it to GIF, but it still does not work when I try to copy and paste it onto a different colored background. Is there something else that I forgot to do or should do? Thanks in advance.

if your saving the image as gif or jpg your not going to get a transparent background or even the same quality of the original image

you need to save it as a png

most images open automatically as a layer titled "background layer". You need to make it a normal layer -- alt (or opt) key and double-click the layer. This will unlock the layer allowing it to have a transparent background now after you delete your selection. However, in the future consider removing the subject(s) from the background as opposed to removing the background from your subject. It allows more freedom to place your subject on ANY background, at any size you want, as opposed to fitting a new background into the subject's image. hope that make sense to you. lol

if your picture in photoshop is saved as a psd file with a transparent background, you can do save as and then save it as a .png

Use .png and you'll be fine.
