i can't make .ico files?

ok so I wanted to make my files be a minecraft chest and i read you just change the .png(or whatever) into a .ico . well my problem is when i do it shows it as a unrecognized file and it opens with windows photo viewer and i if i try to change my icons to it it says "no icon file is found" what do i do here?

You can use a photo editor like GIMP (http://www.gimp.org) to open the .PNG image then save that in .ICO format. Its really easy.

To make story short, .ico is incompatible with everything, but it's close to .bmp. A quick hack is to save a .bmp in 24-bit color, size must be 32x32 or 64x64. Then rename to .ico. It will have a black line, won't support mask.



I just saw something on Microsoft's webpage to create favicons, do a quick test to see if it works. I usually recommended IcoFX, but it's not free anymore. Some programming environments and resource editors include icon editors.

looks stupid, yet you may desire to save the .tiff report as a bmp, then open in up in (of all issues) PaintBrush (if on a living house windows gadget). In PaintBrush, set the pixel length and then do a "save As.." with the report extension .ico (you will desire to try this manually). you may create some tremendously neat icon archives that way.
