I want to make games and mods for Minecraft. My hope was that I could work at Mojang with Notch and stuff, making new updates for his game. Sadly, I have no idea how to use Java. I have no experience with the Java language nor do I have any experience with C++ language. Is there a college class that I can take, or better yet a class I can take in my high school years where I can learn all about the Java language from beginner level to expert? You can probably tell I haven't even made it to high school yet, so I have a long time until I get to college. I wanted to start now.

I've heard of Computer Science, where they say the students learn about computing. I live in Georgia, so Georgia Tech is an option for a school.

Many people say that the Java language is easy, and that one of the best ways to learn it is buying a book. I would agree, but I find it harder for me to read books that are 1.5 inches thick and have size 5 pt font :(

Others say that they take/took classes to learn Java. They didn't specifiy if they learned it in college or not, so it made me ask this question here in the Yahoo! Answers community.

I already tried www.lynda.com. I started out all excited about it, hearing about the number of people sayig it was "So easy" and "So fun". I thought it would be the same for me :P Apparently not.
Lynda.com's dude with the essential stuff got boring after a hours of sitting in the computer following his steps right when he does it.

Is there an easy way for me to learn how to code things in Java so I can put them into Minecraft and possibly make a career helping Notch and Jeb make updates for their game?

If you say I can't have a job at Mojang, I could always make mods and be at least a little bit successful :P

Programming takes a lot of time and effort to learn. Not every single part of it is going to be fun, either, even if you like programming. If you aren't willing to read books or websites and work hard, you will not succeed at learning how to program. There is no fast, easy shortcut to being good. Especially not for being good at something like programming.

That said, if you're willing to give at another go, I can offer some recommendations.

This website has Java tutorials at all levels and is from the company that makes Java:

You may also find working with Greenfoot to be more stimulating than regular coding as you start learning:

Good luck!

You do not need to be good at math to learn whatever computer language. In advanced computer programs one uses certain algorithms, those are solving methods. Those algorithms can be difficult to understand, but they are not necessarely mathematical in the sense that there are lots of formula or calculations involved. What is true is that programming needs a certain logical thinking one needs also for mathematics, so people that are strong in mathematics are often strong in coding too. But you can start learning a computer language like Java without the need of heavy mathematics, sure, why not ?

build up from easier languages. in programming, the concepts are more important than the syntax at first, try ruby, or python or visual basic for a first language. if your really want to go straight to java then i recommend kaikarden's tutorials on youtube.
