I am trying to create my own website (domain) and I am trying to find the best way to do this for free. I do not want it to be on a host website like www.mywebsite.microsoft.com, I would like it to be more like www.mywebsite.com. And if there is not a service that does this for free, could you please tell me the best or cheapest one for this? Thanks.

Domain registration requires a fee, so the only way to get a domain is to pay for it. Also, you are required to fill in your personal information when you register a domain. Your email. Your address. Your phone number. Pretty much everything short of your social security number. Your personal information then becomes public domain, meaning anyone can search for it using a whois database by looking up your domain. I don't think you are capable of creating and managing a social networking site, if you didn't even know this information already. The social networking sites that exist today were not created by prepubescent girls who are clueless about coding a website from scratch.

You must pay for it.

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. A domain name is a name you want to call your website (ex: www.yahoo.com). To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

You can reach reviews about this web hosting provider and its latest DISCOUNT COUPONS at:

http://www.threehosts.com/reviews/1st

Only $3.95 /month (with discount coupon).

They also offer "Free Site Builder" that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any website creating program. (WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get) You can use this service optionally. You can also create the pages offline with your favorite program (DreamWeaver, FrontPage, Microsoft Publisher, etc.), and then upload them to your web host. This is another easy way to get your website online.

You have to be careful when going with a cheap registrar for domain names, because sometimes they'll be cheap for the first year, and then in the second year they up the price ten-fold.

Yahoo did that to me... I bought a domain name for $2.99 and the next year they wanted $35.00 to renew it. I quickly transferred that domain off of Yahoo onto NameCheap, which is a site I do like. NameCheap charges just over nine dollars a year for a domain name which I think isn't bad at all.

But whatever you do, watch out for the bait-and-switch. Make sure that you own the domain name and not the registrar. Ask around, your friends or coworkers, anyone who might own a domain name or two for more than a few years who they go with.

Matt,

I think you have some things mixed up here.

The best way to create your own website is to get a web host. Its very cheap, and they give you a free domain . It will only cost $40.for everything. Then you will have your own domain, such as Matt.com.

When you use a free site, then you get a subdomain, such as matt.weebly.com.

So you see getting a web host is the answer to having your own domain. That $40 gives you your domain name, unlimited space, and the best tools and programs to create your website.

I help people get started with this and I dont charge to help. You can contact me at easysitemaker@yahoo.com

If you are using a webhost that gives a subdomain, then use dot.tk.

Dot.tk will you allow you to have like mywebsite.tk

It has no ads and it is free.

If you are hosting a website on your own computer, use no-ip to create a subdomain like mywebsite.no-ip.org and then use dot.tk to use mywebsite.tk forwards to mywebsite.no-ip.

That's a free way. If your site gets visitors and they donate $ to you for a domain, then buy one. I say "don't spend 10$ for a domain if your site doesn't get any visitors."

I would buy you a domain, because I ahev a business but PayPal limited my account so I can't buy one.

I'm really good in domains and hosting, so if you need any further help, please message me if you want.

How much do you spend a year on junk you don't need? A domain name is under $20 a year for any domain name (and some are a lot cheaper). Try http://www.godaddy.com/default.aspx

You can NOT get a real .com for free, sorry

1) You can get mywebsite.co.cc for free at http://www.co.cc

2) You can get a real .com inexpensively at http://www.domaincityhosting.com which is loaded with features.
