Question:
I have a godaddy domain name (.com) but I want to install wordpress - how do I do so?

First of all, do I need to buy hosting? (If I do, I'll buy it from godaddy, so please don't tell me to buy it from some other website)

I want to install wordpress on my website, but it's asking me to pay a dollar/month for hosting. It also gives me a free domain name, but I already have one. Did I waste my money buying a domain name?

Help - I'm really confused and I just want to be able to download a theme and start posting.

First of all, do I need to buy hosting? => Yes, you will need a web hosting to build a website, also with WordPress. With only a domain name, you can't have a website without a webserver.

(If I do, I'll buy it from godaddy, so please don't tell me to buy it from some other website) => You can actually have your domain in GoDaddy, and host the domain somewhere else, in another webhost, which I also recommend. If you use GoDaddy webserver, you site will be a slow website, I agree with "King" above. GoDaddy is ok for domain registration but not recommended for webhosting.

I want to install wordpress on my website, but it's asking me to pay a dollar/month for hosting. It also gives me a free domain name, but I already have one. Did I waste my money buying a domain name? => If you are already have one, then when you sign up for a hosting plan (in GoDaddy or somewhere else) DO NOT buy a domain again, instead choose "I already have a domain" option, and type your domain there.

Video tut using a domain name with different host (started at 11 minutes 53 seconds). In the video I am using Namecheap (Domain) and HostGator (webhost), the process will be similar if you use another hosts.

Hope this will help.

"First of all, do I need to buy hosting?"

>>Yes, you'll need web hosting. Here's a web hosting guide for newbies if you're confused with all those hosting-related terms: http://www.reviewhell.com/web-hosting-guide/

"I want to install wordpress on my website, but it's asking me to pay a dollar/month for hosting. It also gives me a free domain name, but I already have one. Did I waste my money buying a domain name?"

>> No you didn't. "Free" domains aren't actually free, the fee is just added to your hosting bill. Plus it's always better to separate your hosting and domain so if things go wrong you'd have more freedom and control over your domain.

I know you don't want people telling you not to buy from GD, but do yourself a favor and search for *real* user reviews on GoDaddy's hosting before spending a dime. GoDaddy is great with domains, but it's a whole different story as far as hosting is concerned.

Good luck.

You will have to get the hosting. After you get the hosting you will be able to install WP from your control panel easily.

Spend the buck. You can install WP from their control panel, then clean it up once it's in place.

First of all, do I need to buy hosting? I suggest you buy web hosting. You would need web hosting to install WordPress.

Did I waste my money buying a domain name? No. This is what I think: You bought a domain, and godaddy offers free subdomains.
