Ok for my math project, my professor requires us to use .m file for octave. And everytime I open my .m file, it opens up with a mathematica file instead of an octave file. Should I uninstall mathematica to prevent that? Please let me know what to do here. Thanks.

Operating systems use the "extension", the characters after the "." to identify which program should open that file. Mathematica uses .nb for most files and .m for some. You can edit the associations to tell your operating system to open .m files with Octave instead of with Mathematica. Google or your operating system help system can explain how to do that for your particular operating system. Keep notes so you can change it later when you want Mathematica to open .m files someday.

Can you Specify what Windows you are using? These Instructions are basically step on changing the default player since you cannot opne it with media player. Win 2000/XP/2003: Open any explorer window, Tools > Folder Options then click on the "File Types" tab then search for any other player that you have. if this doesn't solve the problem it means that you don't have the audio codec that applies to the file(s) that you are trying to open. if it doesnt play at all even to other computers or devices it is also a possibility that it is corrupt. =( Vista/Win 7: Right Click on the file choose > "Open With" choose the player you want to try it is the easiest way to change assuming that you have other players installed.
