I want to be a be a developer but I have no coding experience whatsoever. I'm pretty sure Python is a good starting language, but I'm not sure. Also, what operating system is best (I'm currently running Windows XP SP3 (service pack 3)). Thanks for all the help!

There are some MIT lecture videos on youtube

"Introduction to Computer Science"

Those lectures use Python, btw.

The operating system doesn't matter.

HTML is a basic language that is still used in general. It is easy to learn and will help you conceptualize the basic principles of coding with the least amount of effort. Most other coding languages use some html at some level. Beyond that, I would suggest Java. It's just as popular and still in use as is html. Java handles mathematical issues even better than html.

I don't know all of the other coding languages, so I can't give you the pro's and con's of all of them. It might be a good idea to go to your local community college and speak with someone in the IT (Internet Technology) department. They would ideally be the ones to give you the best answer on that. They know the trends of where their field is headed and can tell you what the most likely trend will be 5 years from now. After all, you don't just want to get your first job. You want to stay employable your whole life.

Good luck.

If you have no experience whatsoever Visual Basic is good to start off with and then later C++
