Question:
Selecting Classes - Java and VB?

I am selecting classes for next year. The Visual Basic is considered the Intro class and the Java is considered the Intermediate Programming Class. After talking with people, they have said that VB is practically obsolete and a waste of time. I want to skip it and take Java (Intermediate Programming). It seems like the syllabus implies that VB (Intro) is the prereq to Java (Intermediate). However, after speaking with my counselor, teacher, and others, I learned that It WAS NOT. These are CHS courses. Using logic, there is no reason why the titles are like this, as VB does not lead to Java as they are different languages.

I could major in Comp Sci, I don't know yet. The University website didn't say that VB is a prereq, however, they said that once one takes Java, they can't go back to take VB.

I'm just worried that I'm skipping something maybe necessary down the road. I don't want to get to the University and have them tell me I did it wrong and I'm in trouble for not having VB. I want to take Java, not VB as its practically dead.

Help Ease my Mind and convince me that my choice is fine!

Thanks

I will simply say that with each new version of Visual Studio Microsoft brings VB.NET more and more inline with C#. VB.NET is also one of the back end languages used in ASP.NET and Silverlight. It is not obsolete by any means nor is it likely to be any time soon. Old VB (pre .NET) however is obsolete and should be avoided.

VB is journey-pushed and procedural type of programming. VB remains round interior the corporate international tying together MSOffice merchandise. truly VB is decision 2 interior the back of Java in legacy code. even so, I actual have got here across VB programmers have a foul time with Java. Java is OOP. VB Programmers are ideas-set with magic numbers and complicated-coded GUI. Java is ratios and templates. in case you skipped VB, then Java may exhibit you the way in a while with C#, the step grandchild of VB. C# is larger equivalent to Java's way of concerns, notwithstanding C# is constrained to MS merchandise.

VB is event-driven and procedural style of programming. VB is still around in the corporate world tying together MSOffice products. In fact VB is Number 2 behind Java in legacy code.

Having said that, I have observed VB programmers have a terrible time with Java. Java is OOP. VB Programmers are mind-set with magic numbers and hard-coded GUI. Java is ratios and templates.

IF you skipped VB, then Java might show you the way later on with C#, the step grandchild of VB. C# is more akin to Java's way of things, but C# is limited to MS products.
