Well I dont understand why you are asking these questions but it is usually the file extension that tells the browser and other apps that the file is a web/html file. Once it finds the extension it then goes in and checks the tags to verify whether the file is able to be used or not. (It doesnt just use the tags because if it did then html files could have many thousands of different extensions)

Are these questions a part of a school assignment or what? If they are you know it is easy enough to just do a search on wiki or one of the many other sites and they will give you all the info youi need

c. the opening and closing of HTML tags

its not b. because the web browser does not read the file extension it reads the file source which is where the opening and closing tags are located if these tags were not located in the source it self your web browser wouldnt be able to open anything up even if your file extension has .html

the html language starts with the tag and ends with the closing tag that's what tells the browser that an html document is an html document, it is specified at the beginning of the code.

I agree with dwightl.g. anyway, if you really wanted to learn this stuff then there are a million sites with that kind of info, just use google. i mean... look what I just tried and

it WORKS ====> http://www.html.com/

Correct answer should be C because without having HTML tags browser can't recognize whether file is valid html or not.
