I just downloaded java again on my computer, and it seems to have an issue. Whenever I go to open a .jar file, the file opens up a black command prompt looking box that quickly goes away a millisecond after it comes up. I'm running a windows vista os, and have java version 6 update 27 (the most recent). Any help would be appreciated.

The jar file is not executable so you cannot run it

try extracting it

hmmm... you could try typing a command in to cmd to open the file

also some .jar files are not meant to be opened so you could try using an unzipper program and unzip the .jar and then there should be heaps of .jar files which you can edit

other wise look for another program

The best software to open a file .jar, .rar, .zip, .7z, .001, .002, etc... it's for sure WinRar!

I found a free download here http://gisgt.com/sw/eng/compressione-file-27/winrar-5-10-beta-2-11115.html?x=p

get rid of vista

But you need to import the jar in your IDE, I hope you are using ecilpse. For that, just go open, find the jar, add to external libries. Something like that should work.

Ehm..

If you want to download Winrar you can download it here for free http://bitly.com/1p3PVLK

Winrar is the best freee software to open all the files, it works with all the extension like .zip, .rar, .iso, .tar, .bz2, .ace, .uue, .jar, .7z, etc..

Best of luck!
