I want to create an e-commerce website. I am not sure whether this is a correct name but my visitors will need to create their own accounts and upload pictures.
I have looked at wordpress and they ask to download their platform. Is it possible to create a website without it? I know that I can create a website with google sites or yahoo but I am not sure they offer e-commerce. I want to build a website first and then find a hosting site. Here I have found top uk website builders webhostingfreereviews.com/web-hosting-rating/top-uk-website-builders/?ad=g_uk2build&k=%2Bfree%20%2Bwebsite%20%2Bbuilder

Thank you.

hey,

as you've said, i think what you want to know is how to setup your own website. actually there're two ways to build up a site. if you can code it yourself you may code the site (mostly offline), then upload it to the web server. however, for most people who don't know scripting languages, the common way is to choose a premade template & script to install. it's much more easier.

first of all, you need to buy a hosting plan plus a domain name. web hosts usually offer many popular templates & scripts you can choose as you need. e.g. zencart, oscommerce for ecommerce sites. there're also online tools like autoinstaller for you to setup your site easily.

as for web hosts, i would recommend hostgator, a top host which is reputable and reliable. a shared plan is good for your site.

today is blackfriday, they have 50%off special offer from 12AM CST (1AM EST) until 11:59PM CST(12:59AM EST).

hope this helps.

It really depends on your skill level. If you're much of a beginner, I'd purchase a cpanel hosting account (you can rent monthly from around £3.00 upwards) and purchase a domain name for as little as £7.00.

Make sure the hosting company you purchase from includes a fantastico installer, then you'll be able to auto install an ecommerce site. Once installed, you could do a google search for templates, and change the style to something you like, or with a bit of skill, you could re-tamplate it yourself.

Cheapest host and not bad either is probably byet: http://byethost.com/paid-hosting

Their domain names are pretty cheap too.

Also, they include fantastico.

The problem these days is that so many companies such as google want you to use their platforms, which are not the same as proper hosting accounts.

There are also many free, open source scripts available which you could install to your hosting, just google 'open source e commerce script'.

Check this one, look for the demo: http://www.oscommerce.com/

About editting or creating on line, well you can edit 'live' in cpanel.

iPage and FatCow are the best solution for the type of website you need.

They offer a lot of ways to build a professional website, with no programming necessary, and they offer a couple CMS like Wordpress through their easy one click installs.

Content management system (CMS) is the type of a website platform you described, e-commerce is a shopping website (like when you need a shopping cart) and you can have both on your website.

Both iPage and FatCow have a thanksgiving/black friday sale right now and you get a free domain with the hosting account (including a .co.uk or similar).

Check out Jimdo. I know they have a pretty good e-commerce platform, and it starts off for free (with option to upgrade to their paid platform).

You can work on your website online, so no need to download.

Here are some reviews on them - http://www.website-builder-review.info/jimdo-review.html

Good luck.

If you have to ask "Can I work online?", then you can't.

Sorry! Don't shoot the messenger!
