Question:
Wordpress or blogger?
2010-09-07 08:33:25 UTC
I just want to blog! Right now Im working on some personal blogs that I'll be using like a journal but i'm doing it blog style -- so to say. I'm only journaling for just this month to write about my progression. I want to do it where i can have this as one blog by itself, but up under the same username. I know I can do this with Blogger... Can i do that with Wordpress (or is wordpress more for your own little blog/website?)

Both Wordpress & Blogger have pros & cons, as to many things in life...

Here are some comparisons to help you see the better choice:

Wordpress Pros:

> There are many themes & plugins available.

> Can extend Wordpress to far beyond just a blogging platform, such as ecommerce.

> Most hosts offer one click installation through Fantastico or Simple Scripts.

> Can import from Blogger, Yahoo! 360, Type·Pad, MovabIe·Type, Posterous, Vox.com, Live·JournaI or another Wordpress blog.

> Can submit your posts by email. Images can be attached.

> Can add categories and can also display each category differently on your main page.

> You own the domain name and the blog is hosted on your own account and you have full control over your content.

Blogger Pros:

> Totally free. No hosting cost - free domain name hosting.

> Easy to set up & easy to use. The dashboard is easy to navigate.

> Blogger has introduced a collection of easy-to-customize templates.

> Built-in stats is available to track traffic.

> Can submit your posts by email. You can receive new posts by email too. Images can be attached.

> Free domain name mapping.

> It’s easier to get started with Google Adsense.

Wordpress Cons:

> You need to pay for hosting and domain name.

> No template editing. Style sheet editing is only available as a paid upgrade..

> Scripts generally not allowed.

> Only paid upgrade can map a custom domain.

Blogger Cons:

> Can only import from another BlogSpot blog.

> Limited options for customizing blog.

> Doesn’t allow categories (though can use Labels).

> Google owns your content and you don’t have absolute control over your own blog. Though Blogger allows you to publish to your own domain, but they still own the database that holds your content.

> People know quickly that you are using free blog service unless you purchase your own domain name and point it to your Blogger blog.

To me, I would try both to really know what is best for you.

Cheers!

WordPress:

If you have paid hosting, you already have WordPress ready to install. You have to log into your account and use the Control Panel (cPanel) to install it. Then you use the Dashboard to edit. If you have a free web site, you need to check if you are allowed to use PHP and a database as these will be needed for a true blog app like WordPress.

I'd recommend wordpress any day.

1. There SEO is amazing. You'll get noticed VERY quickly. Of course depends on your writing as well. :-)

2. It is very easy and intuitive once you get a hang of how to go about it.

3. Easy to migrate from. In case you decide to host it yourself later on.

4. Very good support community and official support. Ask them anything, they'll help.

5. Its very easy for your readers to leave you comments. Its very stupid and cumbersome in blogger. You have to visit 3 pages to leave one comment!
