I was trying to use an ftp program (Fresh Ftp) to transfer a jpg file onto a webhosting site called ftp.fortunecity.com. I dragged the jpg (on my desktop) onto the directory file. All went well until the transfer was 52% finished when it said:

! Upload failed on ftp.fortunecity.com (/rnn.jpg)

Here is the full progress:

> TYPE I
< 200 TYPE is now BINARY.
> REST 0
< 350 Starting at position 0
> TYPE A
< 200 TYPE is now ASCII.
> CWD /
< 250 "/" is the current directory.
> PWD
< 257 "/" is the current directory.
> PORT 192,168,1,45,7,60
< 200 PORT command successful. Data port is 173.51.11.131 port 50311.
> LIST
< 150 Starting ASCII transfer for file listing.
< 226 Transfer done. 274 bytes transferred.
~ Directory listing received.
< LIST Error: total 56
> PWD
< 257 "/" is the current directory.
! Upload failed on ftp.fortunecity.com (/rnn.jpg)

Some people just don't understand how limited onsite uploaders are. FTP is the way to go.

You may have to reduce the file size of your image. It is best to compress those any way for use on a web page.

If you already have an FTP program, you must enter the information below:

HOSTNAME — ftp.fortunecity.com

USERNAME/ID — your FortuneCity USERNAME

PASSWORD — your FortuneCity PASSWORD

You will be dropped directly into your folder, where you can upload, download, delete and rename your files. You can also create subdirectories.

If you do not have an FTP application, you can FTP using Netscape 2.0 or above. To do this enter the following URL in the location bar:

-------------

Usually if an upload fails you probably entered the wrong user or password.

I'm kinda confused as to why you even use FTP. Most webspace providers have open access to your file directory and the ability to upload directly to them.
