I have some important reasons to host the website myself from my own server.

What kind of upload connection will I need for a high traffic server? How much would that cost?

For what you indicate you are much better off using a webhosting company with your own dedicated server than a home based server. But wait until you get the actual traffic before you sign up. Take a cheaper shared server, then upgrade as you need to.

Bandwidhe depends on volume of traffic and content served -obviously videos will need more bandwidth compared to simple text pages.

Your business/home based ISP will take a dim view of you hosting a high volume website. Also the upload speed is not likely tro be sufficient. Security will be YOUR problem. Would you be able to pull in another server to handle a sudden rush of traffic?

Think this over very carefully before you decide. Personally, if you have good reason to think you will have a lot of traffic then I'd would never consider hosting it myself.

Don't worry about the cost -if you get loads of traffic then one way or another you should be able to make money.

Just make sure the deal allows for a quick upgrade if demand calls for it.

Bandwidth = page/file views-file size times users per month

Do you really intend to pass such an expensive and complicated process? You should know your site would be unavailable whenever your PC is turned off, and you're leaving yourself open to attacks. So I recommend get a reliable company to do that in return for a few dollars.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

They offer a Full-featured service only $6.95 a month. You can see their Plan Details accompanied with reliable reviews regarding their service at:

Depends how popular the sites gonna get before your ISP shut you down. Get a server, put Apache on it and get a static IP address or Dynamic DNS service on your router. Of course if non of that makes sense then you really shouldn't be doing it and it's just fas easier for everyone if you let a hosting company do it.
