I have an SQL database that has many data fields. Some of the fields have pull down menus to drive consistency. When I try an upload data from free text fields in Excel into these pull downs the data never matches exactly. It is an extremely manual process to clean up these excel docs to match for import. I need a way to automate this process! Please help!

Visual Basic for Application is the way ... then you will do the clean up via some macro

It is not so long to learn it, but it requires stamina ;-)

My best advice, learn it, practice it and you will not regret (beeing a master in Excel have a lot of advantages)

Start today: try to record your clean up using the macro recorder tool. Press ALT+F11 and look at the code. Your challenge is to make the code flexible enough so that it can be used for any import

Good luck

what sort of manual cleanup do you need to do?

this is just a guess, but maybe most of your cleanup can be solved if you save the .xls as a .csv file...then upload.
