The best way to buy an expired domain name is to place a back order on the name so that it will be yours when it is deleted from the other owner. However, if the domain name goes to auction then you will have to compete in a bid war against other people who want to buy that domain name.

You can place a back order here: http://buy.killerdomains.com.au/domain-names/back-order/

It will be about 3 to 4 months after the name expires before it will possibly become available, The Registrar holds it for a grace period plus the hold some good names hoping someone will buy them at auction or similar.

If anyone shows an interest they hold it longer.

It is not much easy to get the same domain name without the knowledge of the current user. Probably the current user may want to continue the domain name.

Even if the current user quits the domain name, you cant buy it for certain time. That time period is called grace period.

You can take the same name in auction. But the cost will become higher while taking the domain through auction.

To avoid this you can buy the same domain name with different extensions like .edu, .org, .ca.us if they are available.

Or you can add some words or characters with the existing domain name and you can buy that one.

for example: if the existing domain name is bestbuy.com, you can get the new one as

thebestbuy.com. This name looks to be the scoop of the existing domain name.

Hello

How do I get a domain name that is about to expire?

The ONLY way you can get a domain is AFTER it's expired. After the domain name is expeired, try to purchase the domain name.

If you can't register the domain name, then wait a little bit, and then try to purchase the domain name.

There is a chance you won't be able to register the domain name. The Administrator can auto renew the domain name, or manually renew their domain name.
