go to http://www.shemes.com

download the newest version of Grab it

even though it's in beta it just rocks!

what is nice is if you subscribe to shemes.com Usenet servers ( as i do from time to time ) you get unlimited browsing of select newsgroups ( he's adding more ) and unlimited searches of newsgroups ( all of them ) with out it going against you GB count ( downloading header does count ), the cool thing you can grab from him or your own isp servers ( if they carry the group ) or both at the same time. been using Grab it for years and Usenet forever. you find it's better than P2P. However you need a program called quick par ( goggle it ) to check the par sets as most if not all the posts are rar format ( you need winrar ) and have par sets to help in completion of incomplete posts. keep in mind that all posts are now yenc encoding, grab it fully supports yenc decoding. It also can download to folder to the group or by ones you designate. It very stable and can handle massive GB ques ( and I am talking about massive ). The author is very good about supporting the program ( and i have tried them all ) and have found it to be the best file grabber out there, it does not have jpeg preview function like some other newsreaders do, but it sheer speed and ease of use outclass other programs, best of all the trial version is fully functional. If you subscribe to his service you can do it in any number of GB increments and can do it as reoccur in subscription or non ( my favorite ) reoccurring 1 time subscription. He accepts pay pal as well ( the way I pay ). His servers are fast. I max out my DSL connection pulling 180Kbs when I download ( 8 threads max on his software / server ), my own isp throttle my connecting to about 35kbs and 4 threads. Back when I was using cable I was pulling 320Kbs or so from him. His servers also have long retention times.

goggle usenet or newsgroups faq file

your isp may or may not carry all the newgruops ( sbc dropped most of there coverage ), so check with your isp for newsgroup servers and the name ( you logon will be your email account logon typically ), so it free from you isp, th e drawback is retention times tend to be shorter verse private commerical servers.

You need two things to download from Usenet: access and client software. I use www.newshosting.com for access and Newsleecher for my client software. Even if your ISP provides you access, it is probably limited to a couple gigs of downloading per month.

I would suggest first signing up for access. Then go to www.newsleecher.com and download the software. Then enter your login info you got from Newshosting.com into your settings for the Newsleecher software. From there just fetch a group list, subscribe to a group you want to check out, then update the headers list. Once you've done that you can just select what you want to download and click "Leech". That's it.

Usenet is free as long as your ISP provides newsgroups but you will need to configure a newsreader. You can use Outlook Express but I like the free program Free Agent.

You need to register first before you could download anything. Sadly it is not free. Go here for details:

I think you have to sign up for the newsletter and download stuff from there, when it is downloaded to your computer, install it and use it.
