Question:
How do I start a website?

I have a really good idea for a website (I think) but I dont know how to go about starting it or how to build a business model to even get started. Its not an internet business...it would be a site that is free to the public but eventually would generate money through advertising like Myspace and Facebook (but it is not a social networking site). Any help, books I can read etc would be helpful. I want it to be a real website, not something I make up on like geocities or godaddy.com. Thanks!

Fire,

You sound like someone that knows what they want to do, so I think you should do it.

You are right in choosing a hosted site over a free website. There are so many reasons why but i wont go into all that. But I will say, if you want traffic, a free site wont do.

Im going to try to make this plain and simple.

Its easy, I kid you not.

First you need a web host. It will cost only about $40 a year. Thats all.

The host gives you everything you need. Your own domain(your dot com name), all kinds of tools including blog makers, forum makers, newsletter centers, email auto responder and great programs to make your website.

In my opinion, you dont need HTML, CSS,PHP or any of that. Most of that is fading anyway so why study them.

The most common method today is known as content management.

Programs like Joomla and Wordpress. I suggest Wordpress.

Its very easy to use, if youve ever done a Myspace page, or Facebook,

its not that much different. They look great when you are done.

The web host also provides great support, videos etc. to get you going.

I just did something similar and in a month i had 400 visitors a day.

You can do it. Good Luck

GoDaddy happens to be a real web host - many commercial sites are located on their servers. (The domain name would be your domain name, not theirs.)

But for learning how to go about it, you'd need to learn computer programming, a few computer languages, how the web works (client'server technology, the document object model), etc. Figure a few years to learn the basics, then another few for experience - before you're at the point where you can think of developing a commercial site.

Then there are other considerations. To write a business model, you need a bit of training in business. You should also know both the financial and the legal ramifications of a business owning a website. Add another year or two for all that.

Not something you'll do before summer comes around next time.

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. A domain name is a name you want to call your website (ex: www.yahoo.com). To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BH web hosting which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

How I started my internet business was through this site and I found out it isn't tough to earn money from home.

If someone like me can do it, ANYONE can do it! You can create a cash-making Web site on your own. Forget technical knowledge and experience. Really.

I'd come home late from work, spend time with my children, put them to bed, and then work on my website. Little by little, I made it happen. Sometimes, I was so excited, I would stay up till 4 AM. Now when people ask me how, I tell them to learn the stuff on http://www.onlinemarketing-course.com

There are many free websites and you can go to sites such as free-webhosts.com where you can find the perfect one for you, like a search engine. Domains are normally cheap and easy to set up. You will need some knowledge of (X)HTML code or you could use a design program such as Dreamweaver or frontpage.

Go and buy a info domain for about .99 cents from GoDaddy... so you have the name ready.

Get some HTML editors like Microsoft Impressions or Adobe Dreamweaver and start creating pages, you don't need to be very savvy person in programming... a little HTML knowledge can create a good looking page with information and all.

Go to google.com and set up you email account for free...

http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/index.html

(now you have an email like yourname@yourdomain.info)

goto http://www.000webhost.com to get free hosting.

If you face any problems with HTML and designing let me know I can help you out with that.

Thanks

You can learn html (the programming language primarily used for the internet) and make one yourself and pay for a domain, or you could use ms word (which kinda stinks) and find a host.
