I want users in 2 cities to see Version A of my website while the rest of the world sees Version B. Possible?

I know that cloaking shows one version of a website to a search engine and another version to other people...it seems like, then, you could use the same techniques to show people in Samplecity, USA one version of the site, and the rest of the world another version. Seems this would be dependent upon one's ability to know the IP addresses/ranges used in a particular city. I know that's doable to some degree, since analytics programs have been reporting that info for years. But that's just one side of the coin; saying that a particular address comes from Memphis is one thing, but attempting to identify all IPs in Memphis is another.

Anyhow, if anyone knows whether this is possible, I'd love to hear it. Thanks in advance for your help!

This is possible by using a reverse DNS lookup service on your Web page, but it has limitations.



If you Google "reverse DNS lookup," you will find all kinds of information about this.



The limitation is that sometimes, your ISP's netblock info does not properly correspond to your geographic location; that is especially true with larger ISPs.



Also, some clients will not properly report their IP addresses in HTTP requests, so you should always trap for that.
