I'm a java programmer, and it seems to be pretty sought after. I started in C++, then C, then the university switched to Java. All three of those languages are similar, so it is easy to switch between them. I do web programming now. I understand that to be JSP, Java servlets, struts, Perl CGI. Basically creating dynamic webpages that can interface with a database. When you look in the college calendar, is there more detail regarding what courses are required for each program? Can you look up the description of the individual courses and see what interests you? Compare the list of courses for each program. They all sound very vague. I also wouldn't recommend specializing in Visual Basic. It is a good side skill to have and it is something you could pick up quickly, but I don't think it is very in demand. Things that have been invaluable in my career are the following: C, C++, Java (all c based languages) HTML, Javascript, CSS, Struts, Servlets, JSP (all web programming) Database design MySQL is a good place to start as it is free Almost every application I write uses a database in some way. Does the college offer coop work terms? If you can get a coop, do it. I learned more in my coop work terms than I did in school, and when I graduated university I already had 2 years of real work experience. Plus I did not need a student loan. Good luck!
