They are surprisingly similar. At any rate, whoever says C doesn't have a scope isn't a C programmer. C is one of most efficient high-level languages out there, if not the most efficient language. I'd start with C as many other languages, including Java, borrow from C. Also, C doesn't have a JRE dependance.

Contrary to what the previous answer said it does not cause you to adapt to other languages quicker. This is merely preference. When I first learned C++ i could pick up other languages in an an afternoon. And I would say that more applications are C++. Just look at a variety of open-source applications. There won't be any Java!!! Functionally they are both similar but C++ is more widely used. It is up to you which to learn. Learn both and decide which you like better. Personally, I recommend C++ to beginners because it is difficult but once you master it you can easily learn other languages because most are much easier!! C++'s scope is also much wider. But this is merely the ramblings of a strong believer in C++.

Java.because java is a platform...But c is also powerful. Scope of C is there but people don't have eye to find the application of C.

It's right that scope of java is more than c language.but you tell us that you are intersted in c language. so i want to suggest you to go with c and become masters in this language and learn everthing in this language.

What browser are you using ??
I can bet its written in C
If you know java , you will understand parts of C ( low level operations and memory management might take some getting used to )
If you know C , java will be easy except for the whole object oriented thing
My first language was lisp , but i picked up both languages quite easily
Example , Android applications use a language borrowed from java but Android itself is written in C
They don't fight , but coexist quite happily

That is partially correct. But if you are really interested in C, there are better opportunities for it abroad than in India.
