I hear its the acttly vido card drivers, or pehaps direct x or the game itself the renders out smothe edges, Why would the drivers do it? isent it up to the game developer to write the code for AA? and if it is the drievers Why would the developer not jsut wirte the aa code? if they could could the game maker perhaps make a faster and better aa the the driver developer? And who makes the special affects in games the driver , direct x, or the game itself? could the game developer use his own affects or does he have to use ones already in direct x or the drivers? and how does the driver know were to render the edges of 3d modles with aa? thanks!!

You have everything mixed up here. The game developers create everything within the game. The video cards will display that information for you, as best they can. The AA is dependent on your video card, and how well it can display something. The higher the number the more detail, the better video card required.

No, it's NOT up to the game developer to write AA code. AA is OPTIONAL, so why should game developer spend time on it? All it does is make the lines look smoother.

As for special effects, it could be "all of the above". Some special effects can be done with shaders, some can be emulated in software, and so on. It depends on the actual driver settings.
