The breaks are.within the anchor does this effect.functionality? Or not

It won't be affect on proformance but you'll get a several line break link this:

emails me__________________________________________________________________________

By the way, its very insecure to use "mailto" method because there are plenty of bots crawling in the web searching for "mailto" tags to spam users mail addresses.

It shouldn't effect it, no. But it's really not proper. Also, the break tags should be self-enclosed. not '

It should not affect anything, as long as you have nothing conflicting in your CSS styling...

... If you have CSS pertaining to the BR tags, that would be the only reason I can think of...
