I have a good knowledge of java...and i want to study python programming language from the basic level. can anyone please suggest some good books for building the foundation of python?.....

If you not looking for official documentation or and actual book the free pdf A Byte of Python by Swaroop ... eh somebody... will go through the basics for you and take you through functional and OO sides of python. I found it a bit ahead of me in aptitude when I was just starting so it may suited to you perfectly. It's the most highly recommended free book I came across.
